The State road championship was on this morning. I decided to do the 10km distance (5km was also on offer). There were two laps to complete, starting from the SA Athletics stadium going on to Sir Donald Bradman Dr, West Tce, Anzac Hwy, RIchmond rd, Railway Tce and back at the stadium for another loop. Some parts were flat, others going slightly up or down, and one rather steep incline of a few hundred meters to test the legs out (to do twice).
I was happy with my race, held more or less a consistent pace all along and even more pleased to have been able to turn on the after burners and win a sprint finish! Final time, about 39mins on the line, a nice achievement for me given that I did 43mins at the Ekiden relay a month ago. The last lap on the stadium was the iconic moment for me, it felt very special!
Thanks to RunningSA for putting on a flawless event! Cheers to the Hills District club and Team Tempo for the good trainings lately and encouragements today, it makes all the difference!
