Today, I took part in an Ekiden run, which is covering the marathon distance in a team of six athletes. It was held right besides the Adelaide zoo with some nice park lands all around. The weather was fantastic which made it very enjoyable. The track was a 2km loop and I did the 10km leg of the Ekiden - other distances were 4km, 4.125km, 6km and 8km. It's a rather tough course, with a rolling hill going up and then back down once you've turned around at the top. And the flat part doesn't feel flat either because you've just had the uphill or you're going against the wind. All in all, a brilliant course to test the fitness. I was happy to set a new personal best time in 42min35s, an improvement of about 30s from last year's record. I had a very controlled pace all along and managed to increase the tempo in the last 3-4km, which I was very happy to be able to do. This was a great hit out and the steak for lunch worked like a treat!!
