This was a great day out in Glenelg, South Australia, for our State Aquathlon Championships. On the menu, we had three laps of a 250m swim and 1.7km run. The race started close to midday so the wind had picked up by then and despite the sea looking great, there was some waves, enough to make you go up and down sometimes. I felt great and was looking forward to the first swim especially, when everyone is ready to launch themselves in the water and battle it out! I also wanted to try out this repetition race format which I didn't do before. I placed myself well after the first swim and played catch-up with the leaders in the run. This scenario will repeat at each round of the swim and run. In the final lap, I lost too much time in the swim, still caught up some people in the run (at least one from my age group); but this was not enough to claim the first spot so I ended up second. I enjoyed the race very much, happy with my swim and run; I was reasonably consistent over the three laps which is good. It was great to be cheered along the way too! It is a race I would definitely love to do again next year!
